Associate executive director at the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva is a member of the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM).
Founded on the values of global healthcare and interdisciplinary scholarship, the Society for Medical Decision Making is dedicated to improving outcomes in the healthcare industry through education and proactive decision making. Open to any decision-maker in the industry, including university and government workers, the SMDM operates primarily as a networking and education organization, with regional conferences and a variety of courses and modules. One of the SMDM’s primary educational offerings is its selection of core courses, which members can attend at its conferences and meetings.
An introductory suite of courses, the Society for Medical Decision Making’s core courses cover four different topics, including cost-effective analysis and the psychology of medical decision making. The cost-effective analysis core course covers both the basics and best practices of the topic. Each attendee may bring a different scientific paper for the instructor to help translate into plain, understandable language. The core course covering the psychology of medical decision making walks attendees through each step of the decision making process. It also covers the ways in which attendees can combat their biases to reach the best possible decisions. SMDM offers more advanced short courses as well, with smaller groups and a more direct line to experienced leaders in the field.
